How to refer to the service

Young people

Any one under the age of 18 can refer themselves directly to the service by phoning the office and speaking to the duty worker, dropping into the office and asking to see the duty worker or by e-mailing and providing contact details.

Any one who is concerned about a young person under 18 that may be using substances can talk through their concerns by contacting the office and asking for the duty worker.

All young people must consent to the referral.

Professionals can contact Lifeline Birmingham directly and make the referral over the telephone.

Professionals trained to use the Substance Misuse Assessment Tool (SMAT) should complete this with the young person. Should this indicate a referral to Lifeline Birmingham then please make a telephone referral and fax or post the completed SMAT to the office.

Accurate and detailed information must be provided before the referral will be accepted.
